Taipei - Taiwanese authorities have imposed a fine of 100,000 Taiwan dollars (RP 49.8 million) on a Filipino migrant worker who violated mandatory quarantine for coronavirus (COVID-19) control. The migrant worker was captured on CCTV violating Corona's quarantine for only 8 seconds.

As reported by Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) and reported by CNN on Tuesday (8122020), the unannounced Filipino migrant worker is undergoing quarantine at a hotel in Kaohsiung City. A hotel staffer monitoring the CCTV caught the man out of his room.

The hotel staff then reported it to taiwan's Ministry of Health.

Taiwan's Ministry of Health later imposed a fine of 100,000 Taiwan dollars against the man.

It was reported that the man stepped out of his room for only eight seconds. Under The Corona quarantine rules that apply in Taiwan, people who are being quarantined are not allowed out of their rooms, no matter how long.

Taiwan's Health Ministry confirmed to CNA that quarantined people should not think they will not be fined for getting out of their quarantine hotel rooms.

It is known that there are 56 Corona quarantine facilities in various hotels in the Kaohsiung City area, with a total of 3 thousand rooms for quarantine.

Taiwan is praised for its approach to dealing with the Corona pandemic. The country has never implemented strict lockdowns or restrictions on movement during pandemics such as in mainland China.

Taiwan's response to Corona focuses on speed. Taiwanese authorities began checking all passengers on a direct flight from Wuhan -- the initial location of corona detection -- when the virus was still not globally rampant.

The Government of Taiwan is also investing in mass Corona tests and contact tracking efforts quickly and effectively.

So far, a total of 716 Corona cases have been confirmed in Taiwan, with seven deaths.
